Baatik Painting - Nayika

Description of product

This beautiful painting captures a scene where a lady who has come to fetch water, is mesmerized by the beautiful pair of Saaras birds - Cranes. The Saaras birds are venerated in India and there is a legend that the first poet Adi Kavi Valmiki cursed a hunter for killing a saaras crane and was then inspired to write the epic Ramayana.

Batik is a simple technique where patterns and motifs are created by applying wax which resists dyes and therefore allows artisans to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color and then removing wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colors are desired.
