Banjaarin - a nomadic lady. In this painting, a banjaarin is shown dancing in her traditional costume. The artist has bejewelled the banjarin from top to toe in jewellery viz. maang tika ( an ornament worn on head falling onto forehead), Nose ring, necklace, ear rings, bangles and anklets.
Batik is a simple technique where patterns and motifs are created by applying wax which resists dyes and therefore allows artisans to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color and then removing wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colors are desired.
