Tanjore Paintings – The Stamp of Uniqueness from the Deep South
Thanjavur or Tanjore painting is one of the most prominent art form of South India. This art form which reached its glory in the 16th and 17th century under the auspices of the Nayakas and later, Marathas is distinctive with the subjects being prominent in the painting with distinctive colours and a relief work for a 3D effect.
Tanjore paintings are unique in that despite the use of bold colours they are subtle and have a good aesthetic appeal. They can be adorned in a Puja room, a living room – complementing traditional or contemporary wooden furniture –or even in an office area – organisations wanting to blend in the rich culture into the work area would be encouraged to have this glorious art-form as part of their choice.
